To celebrate the 90th anniversary of Winnie-the-Pooh, Disney wanted to create a site for parents and children to easily interact with the classic characters and inspire their play time. Research shows that mothers are very actively searching the Internet for advice, tools and new content. Disney also wanted a way to connect with new Mums and Mummy bloggers, who are well regarded among new parents.
Disney UK partnered with Spitfire Studio to design and develop the site, which it wanted to be optimised for tablets as well as traditional desktop computers. The team anticipated that the site would continue to evolve, so it was intentionally designed to make adding new map locations and content within existing areas over time incredibly easy and seamless. The site’s main interface is a map of the Hundred Acre Wood, which includes graphics of characters. Users can navigate, with zoom and panning, just like any other Google Map.
- With customised graphics, users really feel like they are in the world of Winnie-the-Pooh. Places on the map like Pooh’s House and Eeyore’s field are marked with customised pins
- With Street View, users can pan and look around and click objects to access games, advice, videos and more
- Since the site is customised to a user's location, it will suggest relevant activities, like rainy-day play during a stormy afternoon
